Worship at our ChurchContents:Times of servicesSunday morning services are at 10.30 a.m. For further details please see the Church Calendar on the homepage. For details of services in the evening please see the Church Calendar on the homepage. Types and formats of services
Worship ServicesMorning worship with sermon and organ. Crèche facilities are available for the very young. Children and Young People are involved in the first 10 to 15 minutes of the service then go to ‘Sunday Club’ or ‘Youth +’ for age appropriate activities. This format is used for services when none of the special formats below are in use. Regular attendance is about 135 adults and 35 children and young people for morning services. In the evening the services have a quieter atmosphere with about 12 adults attending. Worshipping TogetherThese services are usually planned for the first Sunday of each month. It is informal worship for people of all ages with an emphasis on participation. Crèche facilities are available for the very young. Age appropriate learning activities are provided - see ‘Sunday Club’. Modern songs and traditional hymns are used, accompanied by a variety of instruments and singing groups - see ‘Music in Worship’ Tea Time ServicesThese are held on the second and fourth Sundays of each month at 4.00 p.m. It is informal worship designed especially for families with young children, but to which all are invited, and about 50 adults and children attend. The service lasts for about 45 minutes, after which afternoon tea is served. Contemporary CelebrationThese services occur occasionally at 6.30 p.m. Informality, variety and flexibility are the key elements to this style of worship where attendance is usually about 60 people. The word of God is explored through modern music and song, drama, dance and movement, discussion and creative activities. Joint ServicesThese services are with other Methodist Churches and other local denominations. Holy CommunionThe Lord’s Supper may be a part of any of the services of the church. We have an ‘open’ table for everyone to share bread and wine if they think it is appropriate, whatever their age. Non-alcoholic wine and ordinary bread are used. Music in worshipWe are fortunate in being blessed with a number of people able and willing to lead the musical input to worship, and we are always keen to welcome new musicians and singers into our midst. Music GroupThe music group provides music for worship using a range of instruments and musical styles. It plays for the monthly Worship+ services and periodically at other times of worship in our church and in the Nottingham South Circuit. It has also occasionally performed at social events. This all-age group, directed by Lesley Blackburn, provides fellowship and friendship while enabling and encouraging worship. Facilities for the less able
Worship for familiesFamilies are welcome to all our services and we encourage a family-friendly atmosphere. We take safeguarding of children very seriously and always ensure correct procedures are followed. Services of particular interest to families include:
A CRÈCHE is available for babies and toddlers for every morning service in a special room adjoining the church. The room provides a safe play area, with suitable toys and books, en-suite toilet and baby-changing facilities. A loudspeaker relays the worship into the crèche room. Also on Sunday mornings we operate a Sunday Club and Youth+ (see below). Worship for children and youthThe SUNDAY CLUB aims to enable children to discover Jesus at work in their lives through stories, songs, drama, craft activities and fun. Children from the ages of 3 to 12 years are welcome. They meet on Sunday mornings from 10.30 to 11.30 am starting in the church worship and then moving to Searchers or Explorers depending on age. On the first and third Sundays each month an appropriate activity is provided for the children in the church. ‘Youth+’ is available to young people from age 13 years and the programme includes fellowship, study and social activities, as well as attending suitable acts of worship. The meetings have an informal and flexible style, and the leaders aim to respond to the needs of the young people as they meet to discuss together and learn more about themselves and Jesus. More details can be obtained from the leaders - Myke Blackburn and Sarah Hindmarsh. |
