Worship at our church

TIMES OF SERVICE

Our main service of worship is on Sunday morning at 10.30 a.m.
Click here to view our Preaching Plan for the Nottingham South Circuit which gives full details of the times of worship at this church and at the neighbouring Methodist churches, together with the names of preachers.

TYPES AND FORMATS OF SERVICE

1Worship Services
Morning worship with sermon and organ. Crèche facilities are available for the very young. Children and Young People are involved in the first 10 to 15 minutes of the service then go to ‘Sunday Club’ or ‘Youth +’ for age appropriate activities.
This format is used for services when none of the special formats below are in use. Regular attendance is about 135 adults and 35 children and young people for morning services. In the evening the services have a quieter atmosphere with about 12 adults attending.

1Worshipping Together
These services are usually planned for the third Sunday of each month.
It is informal worship where we all worship together and explore a theme in church before inviting all ages to chose from different activities running at the same time allowing people to decide what suits them best.  Crèche facilities are available for the very young.
Modern songs and traditional hymns are used, accompanied by a variety of instruments and singing groups - see ‘Music in Worship’

1Tea Time Services
These are held on the second and fourth Sundays of each month at 4.00 p.m.
It is informal worship designed especially for families with young children, but to which all are invited, and about 50 adults and children attend. The service lasts for about 45 minutes, after which afternoon tea is served.

1Joint Services
These services are with other Methodist Churches and other local denominations.

1Holy Communion
The Lord’s Supper may be a part of any of the services of the church. We have an ‘open’ table for everyone to share bread and wine if they think it is appropriate, whatever their age. Non-alcoholic wine and ordinary bread are used.

MUSIC IN WORSHIP

We are fortunate in being blessed with a number of people able and willing to lead the musical input to worship, and we are always keen to welcome new musicians and singers into our midst.

Music Group
The music group provides music for worship using a range of instruments and musical styles. It plays for the monthly Worship+ services and periodically at other times of worship in our church and in the Nottingham South Circuit. It has also occasionally performed at social events.

This all-age group, directed by Lesley Blackburn, provides fellowship and friendship while enabling and encouraging worship.

FACILITIES FOR THE LESS ABLED

  • Easy wheelchair access is available to the church and ground floor ancillary premises.
  • Toilet facilities for disabled & wheel chair users are available.
  • The Church has a PA and loop system for those who are hard of hearing and those who use hearing aids.
  • Large print hymn-books, service books, Bibles, weekly news sheets and worship details are available.
  • In the Schoolrooms, a stair lift gives access to first floor rooms

WORSHIP FOR FAMILIES

Families are welcome to all our services and we encourage a family-friendly atmosphere. We take safeguarding of children very seriously and always ensure correct procedures are followed. Services of particular interest to families include:

  • Tea Time services (4.00 pm on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month)
  • Worshipping Together

A CRÈCHE is available for babies and toddlers for every morning service in a special room adjoining the church. The room provides a safe play area, with suitable toys and books, en-suite toilet and baby-changing facilities. A loudspeaker relays the worship into the crèche room.
Also on Sunday mornings we operate a Sunday Club and Youth+ (see below).

WORSHIP FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH

The SUNDAY CLUB aims to enable children to discover Jesus at work in their lives through stories, songs, drama, craft activities and fun. Children from the ages of 3 to 10 years are welcome. They meet on Sunday mornings from 10.30 to 11.30 am starting in the church worship and then moving into their SUNDAY CLUB activities which include stories, puzzles, games and crafts.  More details can be obtained from Monica Heard.

‘Youth+’ is available to young people from age 10 years and the programme includes fellowship, study and social activities. They meet on Sunday mornings from 10.30 to 11.30 am starting in the church worship and then moving into their Youth+ activities.  The meetings have an informal and flexible style, and the leaders aim to respond to the needs of the young people as they meet to discuss together and learn more about themselves and Jesus. More details can be obtained from the leaders - Andy Harris and Mark Butler
